Founder

Late Sri. P K DAS

Whenever the name Nehru College is mentioned, it inevitably brings to mind our late Chairman, P.K. Das. His name is synonymous with Nehru Colleges, which have become a hallmark of quality in higher education. Starting from humble beginnings in 1968, this visionary leader dedicated his energy and hard work to establish 12 esteemed institutions across Tamil Nadu and Kerala. His tireless efforts, determination, and strict self-discipline led to the founding of the Nehru College of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences in Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore, in 1968. In addition to this college, he established four engineering colleges, one arts and science college, one pharmacy college, one aviation institute, and three management colleges, along with a super specialty hospital. At just 29 years old in 1986, he began his career as an educator in Coimbatore. His remarkable rise in the field of technical and higher education was truly phenomenal. Despite facing numerous challenges and obstacles, he remained steadfast and resolute, continually moving forward with unwavering determination to achieve success after success.

The flagship institution, Nehru College of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences, has become unparalleled in the country. It is the only institution offering a wide array of specializations in Aeronautical Maintenance Engineering. Additionally, various B.Sc. degree programs in Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, and Avionics were introduced, along with an MBA in Airline and Airport Management. The exceptional standards maintained at this institution are a testament to the legacy of Founder Chairman P.K. Das.

He further enhanced his achievements by establishing the prestigious Nehru College of Arts and Science on a new campus at Thirumalayampalayam. Two engineering colleges were also set up in Thirumalayampalayam and Kaliapuram, on the outskirts of Coimbatore. In Pambadi, Kerala, he founded the Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre and the Nehru College of Pharmacy. Additionally, the Jawaharlal College of Engineering and Technology was established in Lakkidi, Palakkad District, followed by the launch of the Jawaharlal Aviation Institute in 2010. A state-of-the-art P.K. Das Institute of Medical Sciences was inaugurated in Vaniyamkulam as a super specialty hospital. All these institutions were meticulously planned and overseen by him, reflecting his dedication and success.

Though he passed away about a year ago, he groomed his sons, Adv. P. Krishnadas, the current Managing Trustee, and Dr. P. Krishnakumar, CEO & Secretary of the Nehru Group of Institutions in Coimbatore into accomplished academicians and administrators. They have admirably taken over the administration of these institutions. He was a modest, sincere, honorable individual with noble characteristics. Physically tall and attractive, he also possessed intellectual and behavioral authority.
